Arts Challenge #6

 Rhythm Maker

I started with a basic tool—a blank grid, just 4x4 squares. Then, I filled in those squares with "ta" and "ti-ti" to create a rhythm without putting any real thought into the pattern. This is what it looked and sounded like..

Clapping Rhythm Audio

I used Audacity, a free and simple software (very user friendly in my opinion) to capture the sound of my claps.

To experiment with different percussion sounds I raided the kitchen and recorded the same rhythm pattern using my hands to tap on the following:

Empty Tissue Box

Cooking Pot

Lunchbox

I then had my daughter play with me so we had the pot and lunchbox as the percussion instruments and used the same rhythm pattern and this is what it sounded like (recorded on Audacity):

Lunchbox and pot

What I loved most about this activity was its simplicity. You don't need fancy instruments or musical training to give it a try. All you need is a grid, some syllables, and a willingness to experiment.
