Arts Challenge #1
In reflecting on my art journey I remember dabbling in all sorts of art at school – copper tooling, paper mache, painting, charcoal, lino art, pottery, sketching and decoupage. As an adult I have explored many different arts and crafts, usually with close family and friends. I joined the QCWA, where I learned crochet, quilting, Sashiko stitching (Japanese), and jewelry making. I have not totally loved any of these arts and crafts, but have always enjoyed the process of trying new things and learning a new skill.
Currently, I'm giving watercolor a go with my daughter and I would like to give pencil sketching a try too in the future. I am still searching for the type of creative outlet that really resonate with me, perhaps I will find it on this journey.
The above 6 word novel cover, was created using a cut up paper grocery bag (finally a way to repurpose them!), crayons, permanent marker then digitally manipulated using the Prism App and Canva for the text and black frame. I think the boldness of the text is a good contrast to the image. I added a black outline to the text to also enhance the contrast.
I also experimented with a pencil sketch self portrait (also on grocery bag paper) following the portrait proportions tutorial http://www.artyfactory.com/portraits/pencil-portraits/proportions-of-a-head.html, the one the left is a photo taken without any editing and the one the right is digitally manipulated on the Prism App.
